WAJO- Setelah dirawat hampir tiga bulan di rumah sakit, Meli Amelda, gadis belia asal Kabupaten Wajo, Sulawesi Selatan, yang digerogoti belatung akhirnya meninggal dunia.

Gadis berusia 19 tahun itu sempat dipindah ke RSU Wahidin Sudiro Husodo, Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan.

Kedatangan jenazah pada Rabu sore kemarin disambut isak tangis keluarga bahkan di rumah duka di BTN Pebabri Sengkang, Wajo. Ibu korban, Ramla, harus dipapah masuk ke dalam rumah saat jenazah tiba.

Sedianya, Meli akan menjalani operasi bedah untuk menyembuhkan luka di pinggul serta paha yang sudah digerogoti belatung, namun Meli tutup usia sebelum berada di meja operasi.

Sebelumnya, gadis berparas cantik ini ditemukan tak berdaya di rumah kontrakannya dengan luka borok yang dipenuhi belatung di pinggul serta paha.

Karena tidak ada biaya, orangtua hanya merawat Meli seadanya di rumah. Setelah kasus ini mendapat perhatian dari media massa, barulah sejumlah pejabat Pemerintah Kabupaten Wajo berbondong-bondong datang memberikan bantuan. Meli pun akhirnya dirujuk ke rumah sakit di Makassar.

Kepala Subbag Humas dan Pemasaran RS Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Makassar, Siswanto Wahab, pada Oktober lalu menjelaskan belatung pada luka terbuka adalah sesuatu yang logis.

Dokter spesialis kulit dan kelamin ini mengatakan faktor yang menyebabkan luka pada Mely karena lama telentang di tempat tidur. Keadaan itu, kata dia, menyebabkan suhu tubuh panas. Dampaknya luka di tubuh pasien semakin meluas.

”Perawatannya kurang bagus, akibatkan lukanya parah, terjadilah kematian jaringan. Kematian jaringan bisa timbulkan bau busuk, bau busuk itu mengundang binatang atau bakteri dan virus pembawa kuman penyakit,” urai Siswanto.

Kondisi Mely sempat membaik pada Oktober lalu, lima luka di tubuhnya sudah mulai tertutup, namun gadis berparas cantik itu ternyata tidak kuasa menahan penyakit yang sudah menggerogoti tubuhnya.

Turn Out the Lights: Final Hummer H3 rolls off the line... for Avis

Would the last one out the door please switch off the lights? The long strange trip that has been the Hummer brand is just about over for General Motors. The final ever production H3 rolled out of GM’s Shreveport, Louisiana factory on Monday May 24, 2010 on its way to an Avis rental car outlet. As you may recall, GM had actually stopped assembling H3s in mid-2009 as it went through bankruptcy, but it resumed production recently in order to fill an 849 unit special order.

GM tried to sell the Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co., Ltd but the deal ultimately fell apart last February. A subsequent offer from Raser Technologies also went nowhere. Now that production has ceased, 200 of the 900 remaining employees at Shreveport will be laid off by July and the rest of the Hummer staff back at headquarters in Detroit is either leaving or being reassigned.

We don’t know much about the new coupe, except that the design was "crafted from a clean sheet of paper," and that "the LF-LC blends both high technology and organic shapes to connect the driver to the machine."

Alright then.

We’ve suggested that the LF-LC could be a Lexus LS-based coupe to take on the likes of theMercedes-Benz SLandBMW 6 Series, but we won’t know exactly what’s in store until the concept car is revealed next month. PDF Password

• Introduction

Alternatively, owner password can be recovered using brute-force or dictionary attacks.

Remove more security options from PDF:

Remove metadata Enable this option to strip any XML-based metadata (as opposed to the Summary metadata described in “Metadata”) from the PDF file. Often metadata is inserted for tracking or certification purposes that may no longer be needed in the downsized PDF. An example of such metadata is Adobe XMP. Remove javascript code PDFs may include pieces of the JavaScript programming language in order to enable interactive or intelligent documents and forms. Such elements serve no purpose when printing, and should be removed. These code fragments are also not permitted by international standards such as PDF/X or PDF/A and should be removed there also. Remove embedded thumbnails Since Acrobat 5 and 6, as well as Mac OS X’s Preview application are capable of creating thumbnails on the fly there is no reason to include pre-built thumbnails in the PDF. Enabling this option can therefore save file space without impacting viewers. Remove all comments Remove all comments and annotations from PDF file. Remove embedded file Since a PDF file can be used as a “digital envelope”, it is possible to embed other files directly into a PDF file (much like one might do with a StuffIt or Zip archive). This is quite useful when sending the document to people who can make use of the embedded information, but it certainly wouldn’t serve any purpose when printing a document. Remove bookmarks The hierarchical list of common places to go to in a document is important when viewing the document on screen, but when being printed, such information only serves to waste space and slow down transmission to the RIP and should therefore be removed. Remove private data Many of Adobe’s applications, especially Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator add application specific information to PDF files. In addition, many third party Acrobat plug-ins can also add private information into PDF files. This information is used by these applications to allow you to fully edit PDF files created by these applications. But once you have completed editing of the document, and certainly before distributing it, it is a good idea to remove such information as it will often reduce the PDF as much as 50 percent. Of course, the PDF file can still be edited with Acrobat and other general PDF editing tools. Remove named destination PDF files can contain a list of named destinations for links, similar to anchors (<a>) in HTML documents. When being printed, such information only serves to waste space and slow down transmission to the RIP and should therefore be removed. Remove all form actions Acrobat Form fields may have commands (called Actions) associated with them that enable Acrobat to initiate functions such as opening other files, submitting or resetting form data, playing movies and more. If you aren’t flattening or removing your form fields, but wish to make your PDF inactive from unexpected behaviors or in preparation for printing, you should enable this checkbox. Remove digital signatures Remove digital signatures from PDF file. Recompress data streams When enabled (the default), PDF Password Cracker Enterprise will recompress the text and line art contained in the PDF document. Often this can lead to 10-15% savings due to more efficient compression methods.

PadPivot – From lap to desk, the ultimate iPad and tablet stand

PadPivot appears to be well on its way to becoming another success story from the project funding site KickStarter. The PadPivot is a universal tablet, iPad, eBook reader stand that has been designed to go from your lap (actually, your leg) to a table top. It even folds for easy storage. The two designers put the PadPivot on KickStarter to get funding of $10,000 for tooling expenses and the money was earned within 3 days. The original request of 10K has already been surpassed and is up to almost 50K! The designers plan to have the PadPivot available by April. The BMW 1 Series may have undergone a very slight refresh for the 2012 model year, but it appears that engineers are already hard at work for the next-generation of BMW's current entry-level machine. Here, we see a five-door hatchback version out testing in the snow-laden cold, complete with a set of chains on its rear tires.



Though it appears that the size of the 1 Series hasn't changed much, we can see that the front fascia has been slightly redesigned, probably taking on a shape more akin to what's been done to the larger 5 Series sedan. This prototype is still pretty heavily camouflaged, so it's hard to tell exactly what design tweaks are in store.



As for what's under the hood, your guess is as good as ours. However, BMW's latest commitment to four-cylinder turbocharged engines leads us to believe that the base car will have four-pot power, while the top-end 135i will still likely use the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that we currently enjoy.

The Virtual Balancing Act – how many virtual machines are too many?

A lot has been written recently on the number of virtual machines (VMs) that can (or should) optimally and safely run on a single physical server. While there are many differing opinions, most agree on the basic principles. The customers I talk to tell me they attempt to balance performance, utilization and risk in determining what is “optimal”.

We all want to get the most out of our hardware investment, and server consolidation through virtualization plays an important role in meeting, and in many ways exceeding, this goal. But determining just how many VMs can be supported on a particular hardware platform without impacting the performance needs of end user applications can be a tricky task. We have to take into consideration the needs of the differing workloads sharing the same physical resources, including CPU, Memory or I/O bandwidth.

Virtualization can place a high demand on the server’s CPU, memory, cache and I/O bandwidth. To improve just how those resources are used and shared in a virtual environment – in some cases taking the burden off managing those resources in software – AMD has implemented several CPU extensions with our AMDVirtualization™ technology. In addition, the added number of cores, now up to 12 cores per socket with our AMDOpteron™ 6100 Series processor, the additional memory capacity and memory channels, and faster Hyper Transport Links (think HT3) have all helped to increase VM density, or the number of virtual machines that can be on a single physical server.

Based on a very unscientific, random poll I’ve been taking at various trade shows, user group meetings and customer visits, it appears that most administrators attempt to stay within 50 – 65% capacity of their physical servers as long as they are meeting their performance requirements. This seems very realistic to me and a far cry better than the 3-8% utilization rates we were getting prior to implementing a virtualization solution.

At the same time, they tell me they are still reluctant to overload a physical server with a large number of VMs even if the capacity is available. What happens if a hardware failure is encountered? More VMs would be unavailable, more applications would be unavailable, more users would be affected and it would take longer to move those VMs to an available physical server and get everything up and running again. Therein lays the virtual balancing act. We still have to plan for a suitable time to recover in case of an unplanned outage.

Cores and Memory

Another important aspect when considering how many VMs to run is memory. How much memory do you need per core or per VM? It’s my understanding that some experts recommend 2-4GB of memory per core, while others recommend that amount per VM depending on the type of workload. We know from experience that the more cores and memory we have for our virtual environments, the more capacity and better performance we can achieve.

And we can’t forget about I/O. There are new features and technologies being introduced to ensure better throughput and performance for those workloads with heavy I/O characteristics. Stay tuned here for more on that topic soon.

Resources

There are several tools and technical resources available that can help give you a better idea of what your configuration should look like. VMware offers a product calledVMware vCenter CapacityIQwhich plugs into vCenter Server and provides capacity management for both datacenter and desktop environments. Microsoft offers itsAssessment and Planning Toolkitwhich provides server virtualization scenarios to assist in planning for server consolidation with Microsoft Hyper-V.

HP, Dell and a variety of others offer services that utilize these same tools and various other resources that can also be effective, in addition to providing you an independent evaluation of your needs.

Back to our original question: how many is too many? According to a2008 study by SearchVirtualization.com, 62% of the respondents were running 10 or fewer virtual machines per host and 5% were running more than 25 VMs per host. I’m sure these numbers have increased over the last year or more, but by how much?
